It seems to me there is a gap in the market, so to fill that gap I propose a new business.
The premise is fairly simple. It’s a fully-equipped mechanics shop that you can rent, with 2 and 4 post lifts, a full set of tools, welders, bench press etc.
The whole thing is covered with cameras, and you obviously have to sign a waiver and place a deposit before starting.
Every tool has a place, and at the end of the session every tool that is missing is charged to you. Every tool. If a later cleaning sweep finds the tool in question, it is returned to its place and you are given a rebate (though not as much as you were charged for the missing tool, to incentivise keeping things tidy and in their place).
If a tool fails or breaks, you are not charged, but if it is misused or deliberately sabotaged you are charged double.
There is also a mechanic on-site, to supervise the safe running of the facility. The mechanics services are also available to hire at differing rates, listed in increasing price order:
Some basic materials are available on site for a nominal price (nitrile gloves, oil, grease, loctite, RTV etc), but you are expected to bring your own parts.
There is also a “clean room” with a library of Haynes manuals (that do not get removed from said room) and some stations with internet access for you to browse, with (touchless, protected) screens available in the bay for viewing pages or videos of instructions.
Thoughts?
